In the midst of all the excitement of Moshiach coming one of my kids asked me if its ok that he is a little nervous about moshiach coming, what will happen to me? Will I suddenly become a spiritual person who will want to learn torah all day and not enjoy a good game? A tasty meal anymore? Its a little disconcerting...
Dont we all feel a little like this?
As human beings, its hard for us to let go of our regular, comforting, cravings and desires and want something else, even if we hear that its better and more pleasurable then before. We automatically want what we are used and can't let go...
There is the famous moshel of the beggar that for many years waited everyday in a long line by the soup kitchen to get his free meal, one day he wins the lottery $10 million! woohoo! such excitement. The organizers of the soup kitchen came to him and said surely you will give us a nice donation! 'Of course' answered the beggar! A million dollars! But on one condition- I won't have to wait in the line anymore, from now on, I get my meal first!!!
Just like this beggar is so steeped into his life as a beggar he can't fathom a better pleasure then not having to wait in the line for his meal, and doesn't even realize and can't imagine how much greater his pleasure can be by visiting the fanciest restaurants with the tastiest foods!
Lets not be afraid to let go of our small habits and pleasures and reach out to something so much better, so unimaginably delightful! Let’s break through the golus and really try to want moshiach for real!!
This week פרשת שלח starts of with the story of the מרגלים.
The מרגלים came back from EY and told the Yidden the truth - All the things they really saw which looked frightening to them. So what did they do wrong?
The Rebbe explains that their mistake was that they added something they shouldn't have, they said, "let’s not go..."
When Hashem and Moshe Rabainu told the Yidden,
"We are going to EY,"
the Yidden need to go to EY!
the מרגלים didn't need to decide IF to go, they needed to plan HOW to go! What was the best way of going? And once they start going, Hashem will help with all the difficulties!
My great grandfather Rabbi Avraham Paris was part of a meeting in EY. The members were discussing a letter that the Rebbe sent, telling them to make a network for all the Chabad schools. For various reasons they realized that it was too complicated to do it then, and composed a letter to the Rebbe explaining why they can't do it.
Rabbi Avraham Paris, who was sitting quietly till now, stood up and said, "If the Rebbe asked us chassidim to do something, the meeting isn't if we are doing it or not, the meeting is how are we going to do it!”
He took the letter they composed and ripped it, and then went on to talk about ways of accomplishing what the Rebbe asked. Boruch Hashem they did establish רשת לוי יצחק Which is active till today!
The Rebbe is relying on us, its not whether we can or can't, WE NEED TO BRING MOSHIACH! The question we all need to ask of ourselves is just how? How am I bringing Moshiach? What is the best, The quickest way to do it?
May it be בקרוב ממש now!
Today is the Yismach Moshe’s Yortziet. He was the Rav in 'Eel' not far from here.
The Rebbe spoke about his strong Emuna,
That he always had clothes ready for Moshiach near his bed, and he never bought a house because he believed that any moment he will move to Eretz Yisroel.
Today is also the Yortziet of Rabbi Shloimo Gansfried who wrote the kitzur Shulchan Oruch. He is buried in the bais hakvores here in uzhgorod so i thought it will be nice to mention him too, because of him we know lots of halochos, and its written that when we learn halochos it brings Moshiach!
